What to look for

How to judge a solar install

Most people can't tell a good job from a bad one until something fails. Here's what actually matters.

Tidy cable management

DC cabling should be clipped, in conduit and off the roof sheet. Loose cable rubbing on tin is a fire risk and a warranty problem waiting to happen.

Correct panel spacing

Panels need airflow underneath and proper clearance from roof edges. Cramming the array to the gutter line looks impressive and performs worse.

Marine-grade fixings on the coast

Bayside and Gold Coast installs need stainless fixings and corrosion-rated rail. Standard hardware will weep rust down your roof inside two years.

Labelled isolators

Every isolator clearly labelled and weather-sealed. If an electrician can't tell what's what in an emergency, the install isn't finished.

A switchboard that's up to it

Plenty of older SEQ boards need upgrading before solar goes on. Any installer who ignores that is leaving you a problem.

Paperwork you actually receive

Compliance certificate, connection approval and warranty documents in your inbox. Not "we'll send it through" and then silence.
